Visitor Centers
Joshua Tree has four visitor centers, each offering maps, exhibits, and park information, where visitors can learn about safety, trails, and the desert’s unique ecology.
Skull Rock
This naturally eroded granite formation, resembling a human skull, sits along the main park road and is easily accessible by a short nature trail winding through boulder-strewn desert terrain.
Black Rock Canyon
Known for its dense Joshua tree forests, scenic hiking trails, and diverse wildlife, this area offers a quieter escape with a campground, nature trails, and access to the park’s backcountry.
Cottonwood
Located in the park’s southern region, this lower-elevation area features unique desert flora, rugged mountain backdrops, and access to hiking trails, historic sites, and seasonal wildflower displays.
Indian Cove
Surrounded by towering rock formations, this scenic area offers a campground, hiking trails, and world-class climbing routes, providing a more secluded desert experience just outside the main entrances.
